On a crisp Halloween evening, young Ethan donned his cherished pirate attire, eager to embark on a night of trick-or-treating. With his pumpkin bucket in hand, he ventured into the neighborhood, where jack-o'-lanterns cast flickering smiles and bats danced across the moonlit sky.
As he approached the final house on the block, a gentle "Howwwwl!" echoed from the nearby woods, causing Ethan's heart to race. Emerging from the shadows was a large, furry figure—a wolf!
Frozen in place, Ethan noticed something unusual: the wolf wasn't menacing.
Instead, it wore a tiny pumpkin necklace and had the most sorrowful eyes.
"Don't be afraid," the wolf spoke softly. "I'm not here to scare you.
I've been tricked instead of treated... no one ever shares candy with me."
After a moment's thought, Ethan smiled bravely.
He reached into his bucket and offered a small chocolate bar.
"Here, you can have one of mine," he said. The wolf's eyes sparkled, and with a gentle wag of his tail, he replied, "Thank you, kind pirate.
You've given me the sweetest treat of all—kindness."
The wolf trotted back into the forest, leaving behind a trail of glowing paw prints.
Ethan followed the prints home safely, feeling proud. That night, as he poured his candy onto the floor, Ethan realized something magical: sometimes the scariest things aren't scary at all—they just need a little kindness. |
