Two Teens Critically Injured in Lansdale Train and Pickup Truck Collision

In the early hours of Tuesday, July 1, 2025, a severe collision occurred on South Broad Street in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, involving a pickup truck and a freight train.

At approximately 2:50 a.m., a white 2023 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, carrying two teenage males, collided with a Pennsylvania Northeastern Railroad freight train at a railroad crossing near Lansdale Station.

Surveillance footage reveals the pickup truck traveling at high speed, disregarding a red traffic signal and bypassing the lowered crossing gates, which were fully operational with both visual signals and audible alarms activated at the time of the incident.

The impact was substantial, causing a tank car to partially derail.

Fortunately, there were no hazardous material leaks reported.

The pickup truck caught fire upon collision; however, the flames were extinguished before emergency responders arrived.

Both occupants were trapped inside the vehicle and required extrication by emergency personnel from multiple fire companies, including Fairmount, North Penn, Towamencin, and Colmar, with support from the Volunteer Medical Service Corps (VMSC).

The teenagers were transported to Grand View Hospital, where they remain in critical condition.

Local resident Michelle Higgins expressed her concern, stating, "My heart goes out to the family. Whatever they were doing at 3 o'clock in the morning doesn't matter. As long as they're going to make it, does."

Authorities are conducting a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact circumstances leading to the crash and to implement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

South Broad Street was closed between Vine and Main streets for several hours to facilitate the investigation and cleanup efforts.

Service on the Lansdale/Doylestown Regional Rail Line was temporarily suspended but has since resumed.
